About Me
I am originally from New Zealand. I have always been driven by genuine connection with people and exploration of the human experience. Living in New York after undergrad and creating art for my own personal growth I became fascinated by the loop of creative expression and bearing witness as an innate healing framework. This led me to become certified in Creative Arts therapies at The New School in New York where I learned about the healing powers in the modalities of music, dance, drama and visual art
This cemented my holistic understanding of wellness. I went on to gain my masters in Art Therapy from The School of Visual Art. I wrote my thesis on using the current neuroscientific understanding of trauma, early attachment and art making to reprocess and integrate traumatic material and traumatic attachment. I have interned and worked in psychiatric hospitals in New York and Chicago with a wide variety of diagnoses.
I moved back to New Zealand where I worked at a feminist organization for survivors of sexual abuse and in this role learned to incorporate evidence based principles of CBT and DBT into my work. I used these principles when I co-developed and wrote all the original content for a wellness website for female identifying youth to support survivors, which can be found at www.dearem.co.nz.
Upon returning to Chicago I began working in child welfare supporting youth and family systems impacted by complex trauma, which I still do to this day. In my current role I supervise other clinicians in holistic and evidence based practice. I believe everyone has an inherent drive towards wholeness and health, and am grateful I can help bear witness to these healing journeys.
